Canon EOS 1200D 18MP Digital SLR Specification

For many amateur photographers, the decision is made: a SLR camera must be produced, for example, the new Canon EOS 1200D. Bridge, travel zoom and automatic cameras lure with a lot of focal length and compact housing. But at the latest in the case of weak light, the imaging performance leaves something to be desired. Here the Canon 1200D can impress with its 18 megapixel resolving CMOS sensor in APS-C size, which already convinces in the 600D: High edge sharpness with a maximum of 1.571 line pairs per image height, which also decreases only slightly with increasing light sensitivity. Disturbing noise pixels are noticeable only above ISO 1,600 at 100 percent screen. The light sensitivity is as high as ISO 12,800. Detail and blurring are also in the green area. In terms of image quality, the Canon EOS 1200D can play in the upper middle class.

With its intuitive operation, the DSLR is clearly aimed at beginners. The button layout at the light weight (body weight below 500 grams) and the plastic case, which is more noticeable compared to the predecessor 1100D, has been thought-out and tidy. In addition to manual modes for adjusting aperture and shutter speed, there are six preset modes for sports, portrait and more. Then you can take photos with five effects such as fish eye and toy camera. A video mode for full-HD movies with 25 frames per second can also be found on board. It is even possible to regulate the aperture and the sound pedal manually

The rest of the equipment of the Canon 1200D is however quite rudimentary. Starting with the optical viewfinder, which is quite bright, but comparatively small. In addition, the motif scorer covers only 95 percent and thereby circumcises the edge of the picture. The sharp 3-inch monitor on the back shows the entire range, but does not have flip and touch functions. Other extras such as WLAN, NFC or a microphone port are also searched for the 1200D in vain.

Also in terms of speed, the Canon EOS 1200D delivers a mixed picture. It is true that the car’s nine measuring field-wide autofocus always reacts snappingly when using the viewfinder. In Live View and Video mode, however, auto-focus is significantly slow with a delay of more than two seconds. Series recordings packs the DSLR with almost three images per second on the SD card. While JPEGs go through in unlimited amounts, the 1200D stops with RAW files after six photos. Since the battery shows with a maximum of 97 Videominuten as well as between 620 and 1,240 releases are much more lasting.

A little tip to the end:

If the Canon 1200D is your first camera, go to the solid kit lens 18-55 F3.5-5.6 with “IS” in the name. This costs approximately 50 euros more than the camera lens package without “IS”. For this, however, you get a handy image stabilizer, which actively protects against blurred photos. Information on more than 80 additional lenses is provided by our extensive comparison test.
